How to play Déjà Clue

Get your guesser to say what's on your card. You'll play the same 40 cards three times, but each round gives you fewer ways to help. Remember what you hear in round one.

2+ people in the same room. One phone to pass around.

01 / Before you start

Who's playing?

Add everyone by name. The number of players sets the mode.

2 Cooperative
Take turns giving clues to each other. Work together to finish all three rounds.
3 Individual
One gives clues, one guesses, one waits. The app rotates the cluegiver and guesser each turn.
4+ Teams
Split into teams of at least two. The active team guesses while its cluegiver holds the phone.
Your deck for the whole game.

Pick enough decks for 40 unique cards

The app draws 40 different answers from your selected decks. The same answer in two decks counts once, even if the capital letters or punctuation differ. A single deck can have fewer than 40 cards; your selection just needs enough to draw from.

02 / With the phone

Your turn lasts 30 seconds

The named cluegiver takes the phone and keeps the screen out of the guessers' view. Tap Start Turn and give clues for the current round.

At zero, decide the last card before passing the phone.
Got It
They said the answer. Tap it to remove that card for this round and move to the next.
Fail Round 1
Can't get this one? Send it to the back of the queue and try the next card.
Skip Rounds 2 and 3
Also sends the card to the back. You'll need to get it later in the round.

Keep the phone after Fail or Skip. The timer keeps running and the same cluegiver continues.

At zero, there's one final guess

Tap Got It if they got the last answer, or Miss to send it to the back of the queue. Then pass the phone to the next cluegiver. If Got It cleared the last card, the round is over.

03 / Back through the deck

The cards come back. The clues change.

Each round ends when all 40 cards have been guessed. The app reshuffles the same deck for the next round. A clue you heard earlier can help you recognize a card later.

Try all three with the same answer: Lighthouse.
  1. 1

    Talk freely

Describe the answer without saying it.

"A tower by the sea with a light that guides ships."

  2. 2

    One word only

Give just one word as your clue.

"Coast." They might remember your tower from round one.

  3. 3

    Pantomime only

Act out the answer without talking.

Stand tall and sweep an arm around like a beam of light.

The game ends when you've cleared the deck in round three.

04 / Counting the answers

Only Got It scores

In team play, each Got It adds one point to the active team.
Teams
The active team gets 1 point per Got It.
Three players
The cluegiver and guesser each get 1 point per Got It.
Two players
No team points. Finish all three rounds with as few misses as you can.

Fail, Skip, and Miss add to the miss count. They do not score.

Before you open the app

You can play as a guest

Guests get the full game and official decks. An unfinished game saves in this browser, so you can come back on the same phone. Guest results aren't saved to the server.

An account adds friends you can select for games, community decks and your own decks. Completed games are saved to the server and appear in each participating account's statistics.

Either way, you play together in the room and pass one phone.
